from 192 reviewsWe are so happy with our purchase. It’s darling, comfortable and I’d buy it again!!
To tell the truth I just received my bike today and have not used the electric function. But, at the outset I can say this is a very high quality product made with an eye to detail, functionality and beauty. I'm impressed. I would recommend 1) a sheet of paper in the package explaining that the assembly is outlined in a video; that was not immediately evident; 2) A video on the display function would be helpful, 3) You should consider including a schrader to presta tire pump adaptor, as most buyers will not have presta pumps, and will want to ride their bikes. The tires do arrive at about 3/4 pressure so can be ridden. But overall great work making this high quality and functional product available.
I purchased this bike to help me make the transition to a more car-free lifestyle. I'm using it to commute 5 miles (one way) to work and to run errands around town. My city is not very bike-friendly (working on it!), and I have to carry the bike up a flight of stairs, so I was searching for a lightweight e-bike that could still get me around town fast enough and without having to charge it at work between rides. Story Bikes Commuter Bike was the first bike that seemed to fit all the "must-haves" on my checklist with a great price point. I also loved their mission and give-back program. I have had my bike for about a week and a half so far and couldn't be happier. Couldn't recommend enough. If you're like I was a month ago doing hours and hours of research and unsure of what bike to purchase, my advice would be to stop looking and pick one from Story Bikes!
I live in NYC and started to use the local citi bikes to get more movement in and avoid the subway. I realized having my own e-bike could be a game changer and a friend of mine told me about Story Bikes. I got my bike within a week after ordering. It came with everything assembled except the pedals, handle bar, and needing to put on the LCD screen and bell on the handle bars. I watched the youtube video tutorial to help me put it together (which I recommend) and story bike's chat system online was very responsive to any questions I asked. I've put about 65 miles on the bike so far and here's what I love about it:
+ The seat it comes with is comfortable. I thought I would have to change it but it's been great so far.
+ I've gotten a lot of compliments on the bike itself, it's sleek and doesn't look like a standard e-bike.
+ It's lighter weight than other e-bikes, so it's easy to handle, also manages bumpier roads well.
+ Breaks are responsive.
+ Love that there's 5 speeds of pedal assist, many times I don't have to go above 3 out of the 5 speeds to get where I need to go, or up hills. The torque sensor also means I can pull off from stops with ease.
+ It charges up pretty fast, can go from 0% to 100% battery in about 3-4 hours.
small things I haven't liked:
+ the rear fender was twisted into the back bike spokes when it arrived. It wasn't too hard to fix but the rear fender needing to be attached is a new thing they have changed according to the info I got, and don't currently have in the youtube tutorial when putting the bike together, but the chat system online was very helpful with this.
+ the stitching on the leather hand grips on the handle bars are already starting to fray a little bit, and concerned about the grips starting to wear a bit so soon.
+ the battery isn't the strongest you'll be able to find out there (and it's a good deal still for the price). I can get about 15 miles on the bike when at the highest speed assist, and about 25 miles when I keep the speed assist below 3. I'm also a thick person so your miles will vary but if you ride frequently and take longer rides like I do, you'll have to charge it pretty frequently.
Overall if you're looking for a solid, pretty, affordable e-bike, can't recommend a better option!
Love my new e step through bike. Easy to use, easy to get on and off.
The bike is a welcome addition to my bicycle park. I am able to manage the Seattle area hills and still have to work doing that (nice!). She seems to have a similar weight as my 26-year old Trek "Schlepper", which is awesome, because you could still ride home if the battery gave up on you (that has not happened), or perhaps even put her on a bus rack (not planned at this point). Vaude-bicycle bags fit well, so I'll be able to run shopping errands here. More another time when I am more experienced.
So far has worked as a commuter bike. It gives me the extra push up the hills. I did have to add “no flat tires” because we have a lot of thorns where I live. It just fits me at 5’5” . I have had several people comment about the bike. I like that the frame is lightweight and the battery is hidden in the frame so it looks and feels like a conventional bike. So far I get a full week of riding to and from work on one charge. Only complaint is that it is a rough ride over gravel, bridges etc. but adding a suspension would add weight.
Love the bike!
I absolutely adore this bike! I ride to work daily! At 10:00 pm laying in bed, my partner said it’s a great temperature for a bike ride, my response… “Let’s go!” Excited to put more miles on my bike and far less on my car! Even added storage so I can do all my grocery pick up on my new StoryBike!!
I love my step through Story bike. It’s so easy to go from normal to electric assist. I’m really happy I made the decision to go electric!
I am in my 70s and ride a bike for exercise and recreation, usually on paved roads and bike paths. I was looking for an electric bike that I could ride without assistance 80 to 90% of the time, with a boost for steep or long hills. The Story road bike hits the spot perfectly. It is light enough to ride without assistance and the nine gears are perfect for a rolling hill ride of 20 to 25 miles, but when the terrain gets steeper, it's nice to be able to call on the five levels of power assist to crest the road. So far, the bike is exactly what I was looking for. Like other reviewers, I found the seat uncomfortable for a longer ride, and plan on replacing it. I also wish it was possible to raise the handlebars a bit, but it's not a dealbreaker. I did not notice that there are no braze-ons for mounting a bottle cage, but have ordered a strap on cage which should do the trick. For the price and quality, this is a good bike. And the gift of a bike to someone in need is cream on the top.
My wife and I are in our mid 60s, and we decided to investigate pedal assist bicycles. I first purchased a Story Electric Commuter Bike for myself, due to concern with my full-sized physique. The bike was easy to assemble, and I loved its performance. The bike has met or exceeded my expectations. We then purchased an Electric Step Through Bike for my wife. Together, we are enjoying our new rides, and we look forward to many more years of enjoying the outdoors on our Story bikes. We also feel good about how in a small way, our purchases have helped others in receipt of the Buffalo bikes in Zimbabwe.
Electric Commuter Bike
So far, I love the bike. I’m 67, 5ft 4in, but have long legs and arms, so smaller bikes don’t usually work for me. This is just perfect. And I had no problem putting it on my car bike rack. It’s just a little heavier than my other bike, so I was really surprised that there’s not that much difference. The pedal assist is unbelievable, and all I really need is #1 & #2 to get me up the hills in my area. My brother put it together for me, and when he tested it he said “It’s awesome, I should have one!” When I saw that it was one of Oprah's favorite things, I knew it had to be special.
Love the bike but the rear fender holder was not attached and got kinda bent in shipping. Also lack of manual for use of the charger, motor, display screen, etc. is disappointing. Otherwise the bike itself is a beauty and my local bike mechanic was very impressed with the options and quality of the bike.
