We suggest adjusting to 40 km/h.

First turn on both the main power button and LCD screen power. Go to main settings page by holding  down the + and - buttons simultaneously. On the main settings page use the + and - buttons to move up and down on the screen. Go to Max Speed option, press the top power button as your enter button, then change the speed accordingly.

Adjust Screen Settings - Chapter 2

First turn on both the main power button and LCD screen power. Go to main settings page by holding  down the + and - buttons simultaneously. On the main settings page use the + and - buttons to move up and down on the screen. The power button acts as the enter button by pressing once. You can use this to change from KM to MPH, time, brightness, etc.

Toggle Between Information Views - Chapter 2

First turn on both the main power button and LCD screen power. You will notice in the bottom right corner, it is showing trip mileage. By pressing the top or power button, you can toggle between alternative forms of information displays. These include trip mileage, total mileage, average speed, top speed, calories, power in watts, etc!

Battery

Where is the battery?

The battery is hidden in down tube of the bike frame, sheltering it from all elements.

What kind of battery is it?

We offer a rechargeable Samsung 36 volt, 7.0 AH lithium-ion battery.

How do you charge the battery?

All bikes include a charging unit and A/C adapter that plugs directly into the bike frame and will work with any standard 120V/240V outlet.

Can the battery be removed?

Yes. The battery can be easily removed through a hidden access port in the frame behind the front bike emblem. The battery is intended to be removed to be serviced or replaced but not for daily charging. The battery is charged while within the frame.

Can I buy a replacement battery?

Replacement batteries can be purchased through Story Bikes directly. The current cost for Q3 2024 is $375 plus tax and shipping. Please just email our team at hello@storybicycles.com with questions.

How far can you go?

On a full charge you can ride up to a maximum of 45 miles. The distance will depend on the terrain, rider, and pedal assist level being used.

How long does it take to charge?

It takes 3.5 hours to charge the battery from empty to full.

What is the working temperature of the battery?

The optimal working temperature range for the battery is between 32 degrees Fahrenheit to 104 degrees Fahrenheit.

The maximum working range is between -4 degrees Fahrenheit to 140 degrees Fahrenheit.

Maintenance & Assembly

What kind of bike pump and valve attachment do I need?

All of our Story Bikes feature Presta tire tubes. Presta is a longer and thinner valve that has a locking cap built in at the end to prevent leakage. The traditional tire valve is called a Schrader valve and is shorter and wider similar to a car tire valve. Majority of bike pumps on the market are compatible with a Presta tire valve and many have both a Presta and Schrader valve attachment.

What type of maintenance is required for an electric bike?

These bikes can be serviced through any professional bike shop. Electrical components including LCD screen, battery, controller and motor are supplied by Story Bikes if needed.

Once I get my bikes, how do I assemble it?

Our bikes now arrive 95% assembled. We have tutorial videos to walk you through assembly step by step on this same FAQ page seen above. We include the necessary assembly tools with your order!

Features

What are torque sensing cranks?

A torque based pedal assist system (PAS) is more advanced than a cadence sensing PAS. In general, torque sensing is built to be in tune with the rider’s movements. Sometimes called smart sensing, torque sensors use precision strain to measure the force the rider is actually applying to the pedal. This allows your bike to gauge the appropriate level of pedal assist for conditions.

What class of e-bikes are Story Bikes?

All Story Bikes models are Class 1 e-bikes. A Class 1 e-bike provides assistance only when you pedal. There is not a throttle included on our e-bikes by design. Class 1 e-bikes are fun to ride especially when using a torque sensing PAS. They are accepted in more places including bike paths, bike lanes, and parks!

Is the bike waterproof?

A Story Bike is not "waterproof" but all parts are water resistant and battery is in a waterproof case. Our Story Bikes can be ridden in rain and inclement weather.

How much do the bikes weigh?

The weight varies depending on the model. Our Road Bike model is only 33lbs while the Step Through and Commuter models are both 39lbs.

If I'm between sizes, which one should I get?

Please reach out to our team directly at hello@storybicycles.com with any sizing questions. There is also a general sizing guide written in the description page of each model.

Warranty & Returns

Is there a warranty?

Yes! All Story Bikes come with a 1 year warranty on all components and a 2 year warranty on the frame.  We keep all components including batteries, LCD screens, controllers, and motors in stock and centralized at our Los Angeles warehouse.

Normal wear such as tires, brakes pads, chain rings, and chain is not covered, as it’s an inevitable part of riding.

Serial Number

Each serial number is unique to each bike and is located on the bottom of the frame between the crank arms. It is etched into the metal of the frame. It can also be found on the last page of your user manual (models sold after Sept 2021).

As soon as you receive your order please notate your serial number. We also recommend send to us for your records. This can be used to register the bike as well as to insure under your home or renter’s insurance.
